MOUNTSHANNON HOUSE

Mount Shannon House was built c. 1800 on the Wynne estate. It is a detached three-bay two storey over basement stone house with three two storey out buildings to the rere enclosing a yard. The building complex is set in a landscape of rolling fields and woodland. A stone gateway and double fronted cottage marks the southern entrance with a sweeping drive leading the Mount Shannon House. A stone gateway and derelict double fronted cottage remains from the earlier north eastern entrance and drive. The building is recorded on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage reg No. 32401420 having Regional status.

This report was an architectural appraisal of the Outbuildings of Mount Shannon House, Shannon Eighter, Co. Sligo with respect to a planning application by Dawn Howard Architects for retention of the change of use and conversion of former outbuildings to 2 no. Apartments, retention for 1 no apartment on first floor extension over existing outbuilding and planning permission for the Enhancement of existing entrance and construction of new road and all associates site works.

Dorman architect’s Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment related to the outbuildings only and included historical research; a detailed inventory with photographic record; a methodology schedule for all repair and re-instatement works; a comprehensive schedule of measures to be employed during the works to protect the building against fire risk or accidental damage and/or deliberate damage due to theft or vandalism; an appraisal or the propsoed works and concluding assessment.
