The Practice
Dorman Architects are an award winning architectural practice, based in Dublin city centre, working on a wide range of projects across the island of Ireland. The practice was founded by the John Dorman in 1995. Current work includes public, residential and conservation projects. The practice performs the role as integrated design team leader for a number of public projects on behalf of Dublin City Council. We have received a number of architectural awards most recently in association with Dominic Stevens Architect for the Doolin Coastguard Station.
Practice Director
John Dorman received his Bachelor of Architecture from UCD in 1988 and became a Member of the Royal Institure of Architects of Ireland in 1991. Previously he graduated from Bolton Street with a Diploma in Architectural Technology in 1982. John is Accreditated in Conservation Grade 3 and qualified to perform the duties as Project Supervisor Design Phase and act as Assigned Certifier. Prior to setting up in private practice John developed a broad portfolio of experience and skills through working with selected design-led architectural practices in the US, UK and Ireland on a variety of projects located in the US, Europe and the Far East.

The practice’s design-led approach leads to beautifully crafted buildings, which are accessible, energy efficient and sustainable. Our work reflects the changing global and local environment and rises to the challenge of climate change by seeking ethical , sustainable and low energy solutions. Whether the project is situated in a rural or an urban environment we will aim to produce a fitting and innovative building.
The optimisation of light, space and views are well recognised hallmarks of the practice. We place an emphasis on clear communication and effective management to ensure that all projects are built to the highest standards and delivered within budget. Whether commissioned to design a public building or a one-off house, an office fit-out or a kitchen extension, the practice tackles all projects with enthusiasm, professionalism and total commitment.
Our Clients
We work closely with our clients to develop a clear understanding of their specific requirements with the aim of achieving the most cost effective and ideal solution. Each project is viewed as a new opportunity to create an individual design, which will surpass our client’s expectations. As the client’s representative we help to resolve on-site problems and remove the stress associated with construction by good communication and effective management of the building process.
The construction professionals
The importance of a positive working relationship between the design team and the contractor is critical to the success of the building process. At the outset, we endeavour to develop a close working relationship with the construction team through clear contract documentation and regular communication. It is our policy to act fairly and impartially in the administration of the building contract. We expect and demand good quality workmanship and completion of the work within reasonable time constraints.
